Given the highly destructive fires in Los Angeles and their effect on a disproportionate number of artists, the Jacki Apple Fund created FireBreak: The Jacki Apple Artist Relief Fund. The Grant brought emergency relief to LA-based artists most affected by the effects of the Winter 2025 fires, through loss of housing, studio/storage space, transportation, employment, and the loss of exhibition opportunities.
The Relief Fund provided $20,000 to LACE/Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, to administer grants of $4,000 each to five seriously affected local artists (chosen by LACE in consultation with the Fund, recipients’ privacy protected).
The Jacki Apple Fund also provided $5,000 to the Grief & Hope project, administered by The Brick, in support of their efforts to assist other local artists most affected by the wildfires.

“Jacki Apple is a legend here [Los Angeles]. … we actually just presented the first survey exhibition of art and ecofeminism. … Thank you so much for supporting Grief & Hope and helping us to get funds to aid our artists and art workers directly impacted by this devastation.”

“I have had many thoughts of Jackie as friend and collaborator. It was a long association that helped me develop my craft and confidence in my work. One of the most important things she taught by example, is the necessity of being courageous. This work requires courageousness. … Through you, the committee, Jackie is here again, letting me know that I have the courage that is necessary and a network of people that support me in my efforts.“
